Gregory Pope, Pastor

Gregory James Pope was born in 1978 in Sacramento, CA to Rev. Nathan and Patrice Pope. Gregory lived his first two years in California until his father, a WELS pastor, accepted a call to First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Racine, WI. Gregory lived the rest of his childhood in Racine. He attended Northwestern Preparatory School in Watertown, WI starting in 1992 and graduated in 1996 when the school became Luther Preparatory School. He began studies at Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN in 1996 and graduated in 2000. He attended Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, WI starting in 2000 and served his vicar year at Immanuel, North Richland Hills in the Fort Worth area of Texas. He graduated from the seminary in 2004. He was assigned to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Manitowoc, WI (town of Liberty) in 2004 and served there as pastor until accepting the call to Good Shepherd, Holmen. In Manitowoc he also served as a circuit pastor and helped coordinate a county jail ministry. Gregory met his wife Jennifer at the Manitowoc area WELS choir, Lakeshore Lutheran Chorale, in 2005. They were married in 2006. Jennifer grew up in Two Rivers, WI. Over the years she has worked various jobs including at the Kohler Company in Kohler, WI and most recently at Pine River Dairy in Newton, WI. Gregory and Jennifer have a very old beagle named Ramsey and a very young beagle named Franklin who occasionally get along and always make life interesting. Pastor and Jennifer for several years have been seeking to adopt an infant through Bethany Christian Services. As with all things, they leave the matter in Jesus’ hands. Pastor Pope in his spare time enjoys exercising, reading, hunting and learning to play the piano. He has been taking lessons for three years. They are excited to be here and carry out the Lord’s gospel ministry in Holmen with the people of Good Shepherd.

Tammy Melott and her husband Mike live in Galesville, WI.  In 1987 she graduated from Dr. Martin Luther College with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.  Her first call was to South Milwaukee, WI where she spent the first 20 years of her teaching career at Zion Lutheran School.  During that time, she taught first grade, third grade and worked in the daycare 2-year-old room.  She also enjoyed running the VBS program.  The next 14 years she taught a 5-day pre-k program at Ascension Lutheran Preschool in Plymouth, MN.  She was director for 7 of those years, and also directed the summer program and the before and after school care.  Due to a job relocation for her husband, they moved back to WI in 2021.  Tammy became an assistant teacher at First Lutheran in La Crescent, MN and has done extended subbing there as well.  She has also enjoyed subbing at area Lutheran grade schools.  God blessed their marriage with three children, all of which are married.  Tammy and Mike truly enjoy being grandparents and travel whenever possible to visit the grandkids.  Tammy looks forward to being a part of the early childhood ministry here at Good Shepherd, and is excited to bring God’s message of salvation to his little lambs and their families through this ministry.

Lisa Carlson, Little Lamb Preschool Teacher

Lisa Carlson was born in West Salem where she attended Christ Lutheran Church and Elementary School. While attending Luther High School in Onalaska, Wisc. Mrs. Carlson participated in choir, band and softball. After graduation she attended Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN where she graduated in 1999 with a teaching degree and was married to David Carlson.  Her first call was to serve as 3rd, 4th and 5th grade teacher at St. Matthew’s Lutheran School in Stoddard, WI. After taking some time away from full-time teaching to raise their four sons Mrs. Carlson began her preschool journey in the fall of 1994 as a part-time teacher at Christ-St. John’s Lutheran School in West Salem.  In 1999 she accepted the call to teach preschool at Good Shepherd. Mrs. Carlson enjoys spending time with her 4 adult sons, reading, and taking time with family and friends at their cabin on Potato Lake near Chetek, Wisc.
